Wonderland

"So... what's this all about?"
In LA, the headline news is about how Lindsay Lohan was a bad girl staying out all night drinking and turning up late for work the next day. While on CNN, or any local news channel outside of Los Angeles, the world continues to crumble with further attacks in Iraq, bombings, global warming, heat waves, black outs, you name the disaster.
Los Angeles is kinda like taking the red pill. You live here, you're in Wonderland. The weather is great, the people are stupid (but beautiful), steak tastes like steak and all is well.
Having just come back from a trip to NY a few weeks ago, I found that not only was I more aware from day-to-day how badly our world has become, or at least the media's version of our world, but family matters, rain, humidity, general bleechness ...all were in my face during every waking hour.
But now I'm back in LA, living the passive life. A lot of people would criticize me for being relieved I'm back and not having to answer to any of this, but my own stress levels drop while I'm here. Back home it's night sweats and worry.
LA is like rehab for life. People come here to get centered. You find the social scene too chaotic and shallow. So you do yoga. You hike. Walk along a beach. You get board with yourself to the point where you have to dig deeper inside yourself to find your true person. It's like living in a state of waiting for a lottery number to be drawn. The tales of being discovered by a casting agent in a soda shop and being skyrocketed to stardom is in the backs of everyone's mind. I'll settle for finding out my next mission, dream or purpose. Also being "stuck" in a job that is generally a young person's career, the fears of getting older and getting closer to the cliff, sorta speak, and being "valid" in my later years is stress enough. Bombs not included.
It's LA LA land in every way. So one day I'll come back to the real, gutted-out world. But for now I'm still looking for me.
"So hey, what is Lindsay up to these days?"
